Hopetoun is situated in the southern area of the mallee region of Victoria.  This
picturesque, friendly town, with a
population of approximately 700 people, is literally the Gateway to nearby Wyperfeld national park and Wathe Flora and Fauna Reserve.  A visit to Hopetoun offers varied and interesting walks, drives, wildflowers, bird life, historical tours and much more.

The township of Hopetoun was named after Lord Hopetoun, the Victorian Governor and later Australia's first Governor General.  He first visited the area in 1890 and made several visits to check its progress.
